This race, for which young engineers are challenged to design, build and drive energy-efficient, high-tech vehicles, is not about speed but all about efficiency. The team is currently building an all-new vehicle called The Accelerator, which will be even more lightweight and efficient than in previous years. In creating The Accelerator, project leader Thijs Verbeek and his team are attempting to complete a specific distance within a specific period of time using only a minimum amount of fuel.
“We would not have been able to take part in the Shell Eco-marathon without the support of ABN AMRO Lease and our other sponsors. This is also a highly educational experience for us, as we are learning a lot about the use of alternative fuels in the process of constructing our vehicle. Since ABN AMRO Lease and its clients also get to benefit from our work, I can only describe this as a win-win situation,” the enthusiastic Verbeek said.
In providing financial support to the project, ABN AMRO Lease is seeking to raise awareness of alternative fuel for vehicles. ABN AMRO Lease CEO Frank Stienstra is proud to be collaborating with the students: “Sustainability is a key part of our long-term strategy, and we are also deeply involved in – and invested in – the transition to sustainable energy. It also goes without saying that we are keen to support young talent, since we are partners in the future together.”
