Will Moses, UK Asset Manager

  • When did you join ABN AMRO?

    I joined ABN AMRO in June 2016, just after the Lease Branch’s second anniversary of opening.

  • Where did you come from?

    My last role was an 18 month stint as an Equipment Manager at GE Capital in their EMEA HQ function; prior to that I spent 14 years as a Machinery & Equipment appraiser at Henry Butcher International / GoIndustry / Liquidity Services (evolution of the same Company), supporting banks, corporates and lessors, appraising anything from a shipyard in Ukraine to a gold mine in the Nordics, via some rather sizeable pan-European transport fleets and many things in between.

  • What is your role here at ABN?

    I work as an Equipment Manager within the Asset Valuation team, part of the Risk Function. I’m one of two UK based Equipment Managers; between us we provide collateral advice for hard assets funded on both Lease and ABL transactions, set residual values, manage the rehire and ultimately the sale of end-of-lease assets, and help to develop asset awareness across the business.

  • What’s the biggest value-add your role brings to clients?

    Passion about the assets; by helping to ensure that we understand both the client’s business, and how they use their assets, we can put together a more compelling offering, while also improving our own understanding of the inherent risks and challenges. This is of paramount importance where we are taking own book RV risk, not only to ensure that we understand the transaction and likely outcomes, but also to provide the client with a structured proposal that meets their needs while offering an attractive rental.

  • Who do you mainly interact with?

    I work closely with several other functions, including our Commercial Team, Credit and Internal Sales, along with my colleagues in NL and key external advisors and remarketing partners.

  • What do you enjoy most about your role?

    I get a real kick from the feeling of adding value; delivering a high level of service, maintaining the good stewardship of our portfolio, and helping the business to make well informed decisions.

  • Where do you live?

    I live near Leeds in West Yorkshire, with my wife Sarah, daughter Charlotte and Alice the cat.

  • What do you like to do in your spare time?

    This “spare time” business..? When I’m not working, I enjoy playing tennis (badly), DIY, dining out, spending time with the family, etc. but most of all messing around with cars.

  • What is your favourite film?

    I don’t tend to watch movies more than once, there’s just too much content out there, and not enough time. If I had to pick a movie that always captures my attention, it would have to be The Italian Job (1969), it’s got suspense, car chases, humour and Benny Hill. Doesn’t matter that you know the ending, just an entertaining movie.

  • What is your favourite kind of meal?

    Italian. Simply put I think the Italians have the best food in the World!

  • What was your earliest ambition?

    Having spent my formative years at a family owned car dealer, I really wanted to have my own dealership. As my education, experience and career developed, my aspirations changed and I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to follow my father into the world of equipment appraisal and disposal.
